Integrating Deploy Packages with FootPrints Service Desk
FootPrints Deploy
includes tools for deploying software packages to users' desktops. It
is also possible to attach software packages to FootPrints
Issues, Knowledge Base Solutions, and Global Issues, allowing users to
retrieve and run their own packages.
To attach a software package to a Solution:
- Generate a software
package using FootPrints Deploy.
- Select Knowledge
Base | Add to KB from the FootPrints
Toolbar. If you do not have the Add
to KB option, you do not have permission to create Solutions.
The Create
Solution page is displayed.
- Knowledge
Base—Select
the Knowledge Base to which the Solution is to be added. The Public Knowledge
Base is viewable by customers and Agents. The Internal Knowledge Base
is only viewable by Agents. This controls who has access to the software
package.
- Title—The Title can
be used for a summary or brief description of the software package (e.g.
Excel
Update).
This field may have a different name (Subject,
Short
Description, etc.)
- Issue
Information—Use
the fields in the Issue
Information section to categorize the Solution by problem type,
application, etc.
- Description—Use the Description
field to give a full description of the software package, who it applies
to, and step-by-step
instructions on how to install it.
This field may have a different name (Notes,
Journal,
Details,
etc.)
- Attachments—
Attach the software package to the Solution, e.g., excelupdate.pwc.
- Click
GO.
- If an approval is
required, the Solution goes into the Pending
queue, and the approvers are notified. Refer
to Approvals for more information. If
no approval is required, the Solution is published to the appropriate
Knowledge Base.
Now when users access the Solution, they can access the
software package. FAQ
Categories can also be created to organize and identify software packages
for different applications, groups, etc.
For users to run the software package successfully, they
must have the Prism Deploy client.
Global Issues
Software packages can also be attached to a Global Issue.
This allows each user who subscribes or is linked to the Global Issue
to get the deployment package. Refer
to Global Issues for more information
on creating Global Issues.
